The worst part about
“getting stuck in a rut”
is the inherent comfort that comes along with that fact.
As authors
it’s important to challenge
ourselves
and
our characters.
If we’re unable to shake loose
the familiar
we just might be sealing our own
grave.
We all know that our characters need to face
challenges –
take on conflict
and see what happens.
But if we keep writing the same kinds of characters
and the same kinds of books
it gets harder and harder to
convince
ourselves that this isn’t the best thing for our
career
or our
craft.
Sometimes all it takes is placing
yourself
or your
character(s)
in an out-house for a week
and seeing if they’ll drink the water 😉
~
How have you gotten yourself or a character out of a rut recently?
