While it would be wonderful if all authors could claim altruism with their writing, at the end of the day it would be even more wonderful if someone bought our book. With the advent of website/blog templates the Indie Author has the control to handle one more publicity outlet. Having a well-displayed book page (or pages) can make or break sales…

MyBookTable – Guest post by Louise Findlay, Author. Poet.

Formatting book pages can be a bit of a pain. How do you get just right?

Grabbing pictures to use as buy buttons, trying to align them all just in that perfect way can be time confusing and annoying. I found my solution in the MyBookTable plugin for WordPress.

It was easy to install and it gave me lots of customisation with whether I wanted a main book page or single ones, I could categorize books with genre, author, series and tags and it even integrates Goodreads reviews. It displays a button on every new page that can input a shortcode that will either show a single book, books by a specific author, books in a genre or every book. You just need to enter the links into the different stores your book is in and the plugin automatically displays buy buttons. You can even add a featured book in a widget area of your website.

The plugin supports most major eBook and print retailers as well as some niche ones and includes the audiobook service, Audible. It has SEO features built in and this is all for free.

There is a premium version of the plugin where you get affiliate links for Amazon and Barnes & Noble, Amazon review integration and a pre-order button that adds emails to a MailChimp list. It also gives you the option for a buy button that will link to any website you wish.

The elite version of the plugin gives a button for PayPal, 1ShoppingCart and eJunkie as well.

I like this plugin because it displays my books in a nice uniformed way and I have complete control over where my books are displayed. I personally use the genres tags and have pages for novellas, anthologies, short stories and poetry and display my books that way along with a separate page for each book. The free version suits my needs and the only issue I have with it is that some of my book covers are displayed a bit small for my liking.
