It’s my pleasure to welcome sci-fi, thriller author Therin Knite to Infinite Pathways today. Therin is an indie novelist who’s been gifted with the creative spark. Her second and newest book, Othella, just launched to high acclaim with 5 star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads.
Thanks for stopping by and meeting with me today, Therin.
Of course! Thanks for having me, MJ.
Why don’t we jump things off by focusing on Othella. Could you tell us a bit about the book?
Othella is a sci-fi, apocalyptic, thriller that was originally supposed to be a novelette. I was going to publish it between Echoes and my next novel, but then the idea expanded into a full-blown novel-length story, so I pushed my other projects back and wrote 72,000 words for Othella instead. This book has three points of view compared to my first book, Echoes. I’ve set it in the near future while Echoes is set in the 28th century. The characters of Othella are a lot like us because they exist in a world not very different from our own. The book looks at where the world could realistically be if we don’t smarten up as a race – how certain-minded people might anticipate the end and try to plan for a new beginning. But really, how could we ever expect things to go exactly as we planned?
What is your favourite part of the book?
The characters, like usual. I always like getting into new “people’s” heads.
And your least favourite?
Proofreading. Surprise. I hate that part. It’s repetitive and incredibly boring.
I hear you – lol! Now, the name – why Othella?
It’s a plot “secret.” You’ll find out when you read it. But don’t expect the reveal too early. In fact, don’t even expect it halfway. The title comes from something that occurs at the end of the book.
You mentioned proofreading a moment ago, let’s talk shop for minute for those writers who are following the interview today. Do you find that you have a preferred writing style?
First person, present tense, followed close by limited third person, present tense. Not a huge fan of writing in the past tense – doesn’t “jive” with the way I think. Neither does omniscient.
What’s your writing process like?
I’m a pantser. I don’t outline. I simply start writing. Generally, I go through several partial drafts, each longer and better than the last, until I complete a full draft. It’s usually polished after so much initial rewriting, so I immediately go into minor revisions and editing. From there, it’s the standard edit, edit again, edit again, proofread, proofread again, etc. process that most writers go through.
And who do you find inspires your writing?
Stephen King, Garth Nix, Jim Butcher, Laini Taylor, and Michael Connelly.
So, how long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing seriously for 7 years, since I was 15.
So that makes you…
22.

Othella (Arcadian Heights #1)
Georgette
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Georgette McClain can’t resist a juicy tip. So when a rumored crazy ex-CEO gifts her evidence of a vast conspiracy involving the world’s premier scientific community, Arcadian Heights, she sets her sights on the story of a lifetime. And all she has to do to grab it by the reins is sneak into the most secure facility in the world — and expose it for the slaughter house it is.
Marco
Tech company CEO Marco Salt has it all. Fame. Fortune. Family. But not long after Marco’s beloved genius daughter is invited to join Arcadian Heights, a rogue agent reveals to him the horrifying truth about the revered scientific community. Forced to flee for his life, Marco finds himself on the run with a deadly secret in his grasp and a single goal in mind: destroy Arcadian Heights.
Quentin
Quentin Belmont has been the Arcadian Heights spokesman for the better part of two decades, and his singular motivation is to keep the community safe at all costs. So when an internal incursion leaks vital information to an outside party, Quentin preps a “cleanup” without a second thought. But what at first appears to be a simple task turns out to be anything but, and Quentin comes face to face with the unthinkable — a threat that could annihilate the community.

The premise *sounds* like something I’d enjoy. Just downloaded a sample on Amazon for this as well as Echoes. If I’m hooked, I might just grab them both! Kudos and good luck!
