As with any of the arts, I believe this quote rings true.
I’ve been mulling over the idea of how we, authors, create characters and
I’ve found that I quite like the idea of “cooking” them –
Some of us are sloppy at first and let our characters get runny as they
slip and slide across the page making a mess and needing us to clean up after them;
some characters are hard-boiled and difficult to crack
no matter what situation we put them in;
I like the slow boil when it comes to my character writing:
I mull over attributes both consciously and subconsciously while I’m writing and when I’m not…
They reveal themselves to me gradually until they bubble and pop
with personality –
and they’re done 🙂
