In high school and university
I studied English and Drama – Works of Literature
and
other people who made it their business to study it too…
There are 3 overriding theories:
1) There is only one story
2) There are only seven stories
3) There are an infinite number of stories
No matter which version you believe is true,
when it comes to planning out new story, novel or book ideas
don’t be afraid to borrow
from yourself
or
others.
If you didn’t quite go as far as you wanted to with the last
bitchy character and you want to try again –
do it!
If you read a book where a certain event
caused a minor hiccup
(and you’d like to see what might happen on a larger scale)
borrow it and make it your own.
It is this aspect of
trial and error,
mixing and matching,
creating and recreating
that makes being a story teller so magical.
~
Have you every borrowed an idea before?

My newest book idea is a well-known genre for this day in age – urban supernatural fantasy. I love the idea of Lost Girl and Supernatural (the TV shows). There was also a spoof-show called Reaper I used to enjoy too – I’ve taken a little bit of something from each show in order to create my own version of an alternate modern reality 🙂
